Hello Everyone!
I am so excited for the next edition of A Seat at the Table, our FFA accessibility webinar series!
In our second session, "The Guest Arrivals" we are focusing on how your audiences, staff, and filmmakers physically access your in-person events. We will be covering physical access to screening spaces, navigating venue logistics, and building frictionless experiences for Personal Care Assistants (PCAs) and support companions.
Hear from real festival-goers about their experiences with physical access barriers, and thoughtful accommodations that made them feel welcomed. We will then discuss considerations and solutions for physical accessibility in your theaters.
For some homework ahead of this session, I encourage you to reflect on some of the following questions and consider how your festival currently handles some of these real-world scenarios:
- When patrons are waiting in line for popular screenings at your venue/festival, what options are currently available for those who cannot stand for long periods?
- If a patron asks a first-day volunteer at your main venue, "Where is the step-free accessible entrance?", how confident are you that they can direct them accurately?
- Where are the majority of wheelchair-accessible seating locations in your primary screening venues located?
- How does your festival or venue currently handle ticketing and seating for Personal Care Assistants (PCAs) or essential support companions?
- What physical access barriers or challenges is your festival currently trying to navigate?
This is an interactive and problem solving space, so please bring your questions to the webinar or feel free to drop those questions in reply to this post. You can also email me at accessibility@filmfestivalalliance.org.
Lastly, we encourage you to remember these three pillars: Honesty, Curiosity, and Consistency.
