    Our Mission

    The Sonoma International Film Festival provides a welcoming, entertaining and inspiring cinematic experience that supports and promotes independent films and celebrates the cultural diversity in the Sonoma Valley through the art of film.  We are dedicated to enriching visual arts programs in the Sonoma Valley and beyond.

    Role Summary
    Join our team as the Director of Operations & Events and take the lead in the planning and execution of not only the annual Film Festival, but also the many year-round events and screenings that help strengthen and sustain our presence throughout the year.  This role requires a high level of organization, leadership, and problem-solving to ensure events run smoothly and safely.

    Key Responsibilities & Duties

    • Planning & Strategy

      • Develop and implement the operational plan for the festival and other events throughout the year, including timelines, logistics, and resource allocation, ensuring alignment with the broader vision of the festival each year.

      • Identify and secure event locations including signed contracts for each.

      • Secure necessary permits and insurance for all vendors and locations, ensuring compliance with local regulations as required.

      • Establish a detailed budget in accordance with festival expectations. Track expenses and seek approval for spending.

    • Team & Vendor Management

      • Train and manage operations staff and volunteers, ensuring their understanding & alignment with service and safety protocols at all times.

      • Coordinate with vendors, contractors, and service providers (e.g., security, catering, transportation, sanitation).

      • Ensure clear communication and accountability across all departments.

      • Follow up as needed with any issues that may arise.

    • Logistics & Infrastructure

      • Oversee site layout, including staging, tents, power, water, fencing, and signage.

      • Coordinate transportation, parking, and crowd control plans.

      • Manage entry points, and attendee flow, and deploy operations staff as needed to ensure critical areas are best served.

    • On-Site Event Management

      • Serve as the primary point of contact during the festival for operations-related issues.

      • Troubleshoot and resolve real-time operational challenges.

      • Conduct site walkthroughs to ensure quality control and standards compliance.

    • Post Event Wrap-Up

      • Lead breakdown and clean-up efforts.

      • Conduct post-event evaluations and reports.

      • Gather feedback from staff, vendors, and attendees to improve future events.

      • Create & organize event recap document to summarize all input for future reference.

    • Apply independence and creativity to problem solving across project assignments.

    • All other duties as assigned.

    Required Qualifications

    • 5-8 years of demonstrated experience in successful multi-venue event management

    • Project management experience

    • Experience with crisis & risk management

    • Vendor management experience 

    • Self directed on creating opportunities that align with SIFF mission.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience in food & beverage management, catering or banquets

    • Experience with local Sonoma Valley market

    Required  Skills & Abilities

    • Ability to quickly connect with local resources & build strong relationships

    • Ability to stand for up to 8 hours at a time

    • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.

    • Strong leadership abilities

    • Excellent organizational and multitasking skills

    • Budget management and negotiation proficiency

    • Effective communication and interpersonal skills

    Salary Range: $70,000 - $80,000 per annum
